Chopped / Screwed represents the other side of the Shanghai / Hong Kong coin: a warped mirror; tumbling down and down into a well of a reality so similar to your own, but reaching out yields sensory loss. Wearing a veil of a dream-state – things that are normally recognizable are smudged out, living only in the peripheral.
Still as hypnotically calm in nature as the original, yet as the title suggests it’s been wonderfully tampered with. The thick haze surrounding the production, occasional audio crackles/distortion and out-of-key/de-tuned synths create a sense of imperfect perfection. A great recontextualization on a beautiful piece.
